30th November 2024
Meet the Judges
Meet Gemma:
"I've been competing at agility for around 10 years.
I currently compete at grade 7 with 2 toy poodles Angus and Rayne. We have recently been selected for Team England and I will be taking them both out to the Netherlands in May next year to compete at The World Agility Open.
I have a small agility club in Melton Mowbray called Agility Allstarz, I offer group lessons and 1:1s for all levels of handlers.
I recently became a Kennel Club Judge, I particularly prefer to design fast flowing courses with nice safe dog lines 😊"
Meet Anneka:
"Hi I’m Anneka and I’ve been doing agility for 5yrs with my little rescue dachshund Snoopy.
Agility hasn’t always been easy for us and we never thought when we started out that we would be in the ring at competitions or achieving what we have in our training.
Due to Snoopy’s anxiety getting in rings was very difficult and he was bolting and feeling scared in front of other dogs. Over time building one item at a time in the ring, we have been able to make it out to bigger shows and also managed clear confident runs which means the world to us.
We have also been lucky enough to train with a mixture of amazing trainers along our journey, pushing us well beyond our dreams and now smashing 5-7 courses with harder skills.
Our bond has definitely flourished and a big part of that is down to doing agility. This little dog has shown me that any dog can have a go at agility and it’s about the fun together and rosettes are a bonus.
I was also lucky enough to teach beginners agility for a year and it is so amazing to see them now starting to enter the competition world. All I ever wanted was to show people how much fun agility can be and what a cool partnership it can help form.
I look forward to setting some cool courses at the next show and seeing everyone working towards their own goals, even if it’s staying in the ring or not doing zoomies, trust me we have all been there 🤩"
After show update:
Another fantastic show on Saturday! It’s hard to believe we have just one more left for 2024. This event had smaller numbers, creating a more intimate atmosphere, and everything ran smoothly. Unfortunately, Anneka couldn’t attend to judge the agility ring due to unforeseen circumstances. However, she shared her brilliant courses, which were implemented and loved by everyone at the show.
A big thank you to Cassie from the Agility and More Academy for stepping in to judge the first class while I finished setting up and organizing the event. Your support and presence mean so much—thank you, Cassie! Go and give the podcast a listen, it is great whilst walking your dogs.
We were also delighted to welcome Gemma Conroy, a newly qualified Kennel Club judge, for her first judging appointment with Bee Happy. Gemma designed an excellent jumping course and received glowing feedback for her course, judging, and supportive nature. As an instructor at All Stars Agility, Gemma is the perfect fit for our shows. She teaches beginners through to competition level and is based on the other side of Melton. If you’re looking for additional training to complement your current skills, Gemma is a fantastic choice. Thank you, Gemma, for joining us and for a wonderful show. We can’t wait to welcome you back on December 21st—entries are open now!
To everyone who attends our shows and brings their enthusiasm, teamwork, and positive spirit: thank you. We couldn’t do this without you. Your willingness to take on roles, often without being asked, and your incredible teamwork in setting up and packing away truly warms my heart.
A special shoutout to Clare Upton for top-notch ring managing, and to Emma Clithero and her partner for their constant help throughout the day, staying until the very end. Huge thanks to those who stepped up in the afternoon to take on new roles and tasks—you are all amazing. This level of support is what keeps our little show going strong.
We hope to see you at the next event on December 21st, but if not, we’ll see you in 2025. Best wishes to all!
